On a visit to family in India's wetland heartland, our founder first watched the extraordinary process of Makhana harvesting. Women and men wading into cold lake water at dawn, scooping spiny lotus seeds by hand. The slow, careful roasting over iron woks. The satisfying pop. And then the taste — airy, nutty, pure.
"I couldn't believe something this good for you and this delicious wasn't already everywhere in Australia," our founder recalls. "I brought back a suitcase full and shared it with friends in Melbourne. Within a week, everyone was asking where to get more."
That response led to a year of research, supplier visits, and organic certification work — and eventually to Nutriva Foods launching in Melbourne as Australia's dedicated organic Makhana brand.
